How did our Reunion Begin?
The annual Kirby Reunion began in 1933. Tom Kerby was instrumental in getting the first reunion going. We had a lot of family get-togethers before we ever had a reunion and we’d often go to the Springs. After a few years, someone suggested meeting on a holiday weekend to allow everyone driving time before and after the reunion. Labor
The annual Kirby Reunion began in 1933. Tom Kerby was instrumental in getting the first reunion going. We had a lot of family get-togethers before we ever had a reunion and we’d often go to the Springs. After a few years, someone suggested meeting on a holiday weekend to allow everyone driving time before and after the reunion. Labor Day was selected because the weather was a little cooler, but everyone could still swim. When Ichetucknee was made a State Park in 1970, it became difficult to enjoy the Reunion. The decision was made to move the reunion to the 2nd Saturday in September. We have now celebrated 91 continuous years of our Reunion.
